Research - What is Production?

Production is where the principal filming for the movie or TV show takes place. During rehearsals and camera blocking, Stand-Ins work with the Director, Assistant Director, camera crew, and other crew members to block out actor movements and lighting set-ups for a scene. The preproduction phase in filmmaking allows you to organize everything you need before you start rolling the cameras. Preproduction is when you figure out what you need to make your film, how much it's going to cost, and who you can hire to help you. Actors perform on camera, camera crews capture the action, lighting crews illuminate the set, sound crews capture audio, and creative designers oversee costumes, makeup, props, and scenery. The director oversees the entire operation.
